Family videos

I've posted two family videos that Uncle Robert made for me. I'm not seeing any Mike/Melodee kids in here so I'm guessing they weren't married yet??? Anyways, it makes me miss all of you guys! What videos do you guys have of our various get-togethers that we've had over the years? Wanna post them too?

You're ug-ul-ee to me!

Hilarious! Why we hadn't already thought to put this video on the blog sure beats me. Now Rachel's finished her undergrad and serving a mission and I'm an old married woman with arthritis! hahahaha

Special attention to Becca's beautiful landings and Uncle Terry's "in-style" shorts. :) Thanks to Uncle Robert for the videography! We need to have another one of these priceless reunions!

The Last Supper

On the day before we completely moved out, we brought in our dinner to the Hamblin house. If you look closely at the background, 95% of our belongings have already been moved out. Jen came home to say goodbye to the ol' abode.

The Best Things in Life Aren't Hard to Find

To my dear family!
Let's not be boring any more! Let's keep posting on this blog, as it's such a digi-tastic way to stay in touch with what we're all doing in our constituent states/states of mind =)

Ideas:
  • Laralee/Terry: What about ya'll's new house?! Would you post pics? We'd all love to see it = )
  • LeAnne: GRADUATION and pics of your new dorm. What are you taking this coming semester, who are you rooming with etc.!
  • Micah: GRADUATION and you're new apartment in Idaho! What do you think? How are you feeling about going off to college (du du dunnnnnn!)
  • Jackie: Well, we all know you're always doing a million things so what's the latest?! One more year of high school then...??
  • Grams and Bompa: Latest on the cruising situation. What are the summer plans?
  • Mom: Any new dead people developments? What about posting pics of Rachel before she entered the MTC? Posting pictures of the new car/writing about our "Highway to Hell" road trip which lasted WAY too long!
Let's just recognize the fact that I am a complete hypocrite sitting here calling ya'll to repentance when I haven't contributed much! But I will! I have had to start a blog for my advance writing class this spring (would LOVE it if you read a post or two and told me what you thought!!!) and record the process of my writing and through doing that I have found value in the everyday events which shape us to becoming who we are and the opinions we value. This is especially important in the community of the family, as it is an audience which takes most interest in those experiences which slowly mold our square pegs of existence into the round hole of our societal roles (using the analogy not in reference to a "worldly" way of living but rather how we come to find our own in society).

So my dear family, LET'S BLOG! Doesn't have to be long, just a quickie update every week or so. This digital platform is such a perfect stage to keep our family together and up-to-date in each other's lives that its stagnant status has been a sad thing to behold!

In closing, I feel it appropriate to quote Hamlet in what I hope becomes our new family motto:
"Words, words, words."

Home Sweet Rental Home

Can we honestly fit all of our lives into one little living space? The plants add a homey touch; don't you think?

Pick your Poison

Yes Yes I know I was the last one to post on the blog and it may appear that I am hogging space. But this story is a must... another Trentman classic.

Jared and I went out to lunch on Tuesday to get Costa Vida's (knock off version of Cafe Rio) famous pulled pork salad. Details aren't important... fast forward 6 hours. I'm at work when Jared texts me saying 'man I really don't feel good.' 3 hours later I get home from work and am not feeling too good either. That night, we had been laying in bed for about half an hour when Jared bolts out of the room and rushes the bathroom. (He was kind enough though to shut our bedroom door AND the bathroom door behind him cause he knows I get nauseous with the sound of throw up). This was the beginning of a long 24 hours of food poisoning at it's finest.

That poor toilet has gotten it's share of abuse in the last 24 hours. Jared seemed to bounce back fairly quickly, but my share of poison seemed to like me a little more than him. We slept in Wednesday morning, Jared went to his classes- I stayed home to guard the toilet (someone had to do it!). I was feeling like I might be getting better as we climbed into bed Wednesday night. Once again we had been laying in bed for about half an hour when it was my turn to make the midnight porcelain rush. Ran into the bathroom and had to make a fast decision- do we take the pants off or are we pulling our hair back? Which direction will we be projecting? I decided to go with the pants... wrong-oh! Just as I was settling into the toilet seat, my body's alarm system went off- kinda like the G.P.S. lady does when you make a wrong turn and she doesn't like it...."Recalculating...Recalculating... you idiot... turn around"

Pull the pants back up, realigned myself to be facing the toilet and then it happened... actually I don't know what happened. I was in the middle of putting the toilet seat upright when the volcano decided to erupt. And it was a mess! Since I didn't get the seat all the upright, the lovely internal-bodily- fluids erupted and bounced a muck all over the bathroom. THEN, just because it was feeling a little left out, my rear end decided to start spewing and squirting it's share of grossness. Between vomit and gasps of air I moaned, "Jared (heave... heave)... help...(heave...heave)... I just crapped my pants!" I was completely helpless. I felt like crap and vomit was flying out of me and I couldn't do a thing. Jared walked in, made sure I was okay, and after reassuring that I wasn't going to start crying, he started laughing his head off. Once I could get my mouth clear, I was laughing my head off too. How ridiculous! I'm 22 and I just vomited all over and crapped my pants.

Jared was a kind gentleman and cleaned up all my crap while I showered off. We could not stop laughing! The difference between this embarrassing story and the one I told you guys all about at the reunion in California (when I ripped a huge one in my old boyfriend's apartment with all his roommates close by...) is that I'm married now and Jared has to love me and all the crap that comes along with it.... literally. hahaha!

New comedian

Hey all! Jared and I just spent the last hour watching these video clips on youtube of this hilarious comedian we just discovered. His name is Tim Hawkins and he reminds us a lot of Brian Regan. You gotta check it out! Some of our favorite clips are: "Medication" "Favorite Bible Verse" "Scary Bedtime Prayer" "Mexican Food" "Things you don't say to your wife." "GPS"

Micah's Choir Performance

Check out the link to Micah's choir Performance below.
They performed in Fullerton College last week, won Gold (above 90 average score) and Third overall in the competition. They were pleased. They then went to Disneyland Friday night and Saturday. A special shoutout to the Traveling Terry Trentmans for supporting the Falcon Chamber Choir.

Family Reunion "To Do"...

Dear Trentman Family,
I have recently discovered a new love in my life. It's called "Color Me Mine" and is a pottery painting place. You show up, pick out a piece of pottery to paint (they have EVERYTHING you can imagine) and then paint it! They supply you with paint, brushes, palates, water...really they do everything, you just get to paint and create! I'd like to submit this as an activity we should do as a family during the family reunion! I'd be more than happy to make a reservation for...22...and they would be so happy to have us! What are your thoughts? Here's the link to their web site:

Hoping you all agree with me (no pressure!)

OMG! How To Ruin A Date...

Recently I was sitting in the Wilkinson Center, looking my ugliest ever (sweats, no make-up, unfixed hair etc etc etc.) working on my midterm when I have my shoulder tapped. I turn and there's an older guy standing there looking at me expectantly. I make a point of slowly taking out my head phones (hoping to send the sign that this interruption was just that...and interruption and let's keep this quick!) and he asks,
"So I have a question for you. I'm going to stick my neck out there and be a doofus! (I really couldn't have thought of a better word...he hit the nail on the head!)
I was like "Ok...?"
He said "What would you say if a guy you've never seen before, never had class with, but he's seen you around campus, came up to you and asked you for your number?"
Now at this point I'm pretty shell-shocked and don't really know what to say...so I say
"Um ya, I guess...?"
He says "Ok cool, my name is David!"
I'm freaking out now because this guy looks to be a heckofalot older than me! Fast forward a week, and we're on the date...here my friends is where I will explain
"How to Ruin a Date"...maestro if you please:
1. Age difference must be awkwardly apparent: 32 year old with a Master's in Elementary Ed. from University of Phoenix (yes the online school) asking out a 19 year old.
2. DO NOT PICK HER UP! Meet her somewhere on campus that's convenient for YOU!
3. Grunge down! Holey jeans and sweatshirt with tennies is required, anything above and it would look like you put thought into this date (harsh but true!)
4. Plan to be a tour guide for her of HER campus...take her to buildings she has class in EVERY DAY and explain what's in it. However, don't be a student of the school yourself, just pretend you know all about the campus you never went to!
5. Under NO circumstances do you listen or talk about what you don't want to. If she tries to make small talk, just say "Oh" and let it drop because YOU aren't interested in it (even though on the phone you said you planned a date where the two of you could just walk and "chat...getting to know eachother"...oh the irony of it all!)
6. Take her to "museums" (really just displays in the buildings she has class in) that are closed and have been closed since 5pm
7. Fufil your manly roll as dictated by society..."Me man, you woman, me like meat, you cook for man. If woman like, man no likey"
8. Respect her personal space: walk either 5 steps AHEAD or BEHIND her, never right next to her, and still have a conversation (think it can't be done...you're right) the WHOLE time!
9. Mention that you're the oldest of 9 kids, all your siblings are married and you CAN'T WAIT to have kids! You just LOVE children and on the date ask every parent who you see with little kids "How old is she?" ... Parent "Oh, HE'S 1" You "Kinda small for his age" etc etc etc
10. Mooch your heart out: if you know there's a fancy little "shindig" (oh ya, use that word all night to describe everything your limited vocabulary doesn't supply a monosyllabic word for until your date wants to scream "I'll "shin" your "dig" if you say that one more time!!!") is going on, a charity fund raiser of sorts where dinner is provided for about $30 a plate, tell your date later on you'll stop by and see if we can get some free "goodies" from them. (At this point I was so mortified I was going to offer to buy us ice cream so that we didn't crash the charity fund raiser!)
11. When you're looking at art...in the art museum!!!...don't stop to look, analyze and interpret. Just walk by at a swift pace, glancing uninterestedly at the paintings and when your date is still on picture #3 (because she really does like analyzing the paintings...they are AMAZING!) be on the opposite side of the gallery, sitting on the bench, waiting for her to be done!
12. Just to end the date with a "bang!"
walk her to YOUR car...
handshake...
drive away.
Don't offer to give her a ride, she was given two feet, let her use them!

That, my dear family, is how you ruin a date!
Enjoy the pics!

Run For Your Life!

BYU created a fitness challenge this semester entitled "Run For Your Life!" The challenge was simply this...run 150 miles during the course of the semester and your reward is *drum roll please* the coveted INTRAMURAL CHAMPION T-SHIRT! Seriously, this t-shirt is sacred on campus and the person who has one is worshiped! Every morning at 5:20am for 6 weeks Crystal (my friend who did the challenge with me) and I ran at least 3 miles and usually more on our own later on in the day. This morning Crystal and I ran our last mile, went to the intramural office and received our prize! Here are the pics to exhibit our reward!
